Message

build it once, it runs while you sleep

What automations do I set up first — and how do I build sequences that guide people without me writing every email live?

Automate it welcome, onboarding, nurture · 12 artifacts · triggers that route
The painful truth

You don't have an email problem.
You have an automation problem.

You send every email by hand, or you have a welcome email that drops people into silence after message two. Every subscriber gets the same broadcast whether they joined yesterday or a year ago — and you stay chained to the send button. Seen this before?

You have a welcome email — but no welcome sequence. One message isn't onboarding. New subscribers get a single hello, then drift into the general broadcast pool and fade away.

Your automation emails sound robotic. Because they were written in bulk to fill slots — not crafted as a narrative arc with intentional transitions from one email to the next.

You set triggers and never tested them. So subscribers get duplicate emails, skip steps, or land in the wrong sequence entirely — and you only find out when someone complains.

You over-automate too early. Building elaborate branching logic before you have the data to know which paths actually matter — complexity that breaks more than it helps.

Before → After

From "I send each one by hand" to flows that run while you sleep

Before this course

"I have a welcome email but that's it. After that, everyone gets the same broadcasts whether they joined yesterday or a year ago. I know I should have automations but I don't know which ones to build first or how to connect them."

After this course

"I have a welcome sequence, an onboarding flow, and a nurture series that run on autopilot. New subscribers get a guided experience. Triggers and conditions route people based on what they do, and I only write broadcasts for timely content — the foundation runs itself."

The shift: email automation isn't about replacing the personal touch — it's about making sure every subscriber gets the right message at the right time without you orchestrating each send. Build the system once; it works while you sleep.

What you'll build

You don't just watch lessons.
You leave with 12 real artifacts.

Working documents you actually use — not theory about funnels. By the end they add up to a welcome sequence, an onboarding flow, and a nurture series — wired with triggers and conditions that run without you.

The course map

Three moves: map the flows → write the emails → route the paths

Module 1

Sequences

Welcome · onboarding · nurture

The three automations worth building first — mapped end to end.

  • Welcome Design the 3–5 email welcome that sets the tone for everyone
  • Onboard Build the flow that moves new subscribers to actively engaged
  • Nurture Create the long-term series that keeps your list warm between offers
  • Map Map automations to your directory / niche key moments
Module 2

Structure

Arc · emails · transitions

Writing and ordering the emails so each one earns the next open.

  • Arc Give each sequence a narrative so emails build, not feel random
  • Write Draft each email — purpose, hook, body, call to action
  • Bridge Craft transitions so every email leads naturally to the next
  • Shape Structure automation emails for your directory / niche audience
Module 3

Switches

Triggers · conditions · branching

The logic that routes each person to the right path at the right time.

  • Trigger Set the events that start, pause, or redirect a flow
  • Condition Build if / then logic that adapts to behavior and attributes
  • Branch Design multi-path sequences people route themselves through
  • Wire Build directory / niche triggers around your buying cycle

Honest filter

Is this course your right next step?

This is for you if…

  • You send emails by hand and feel behind for not automating yet.
  • You have a welcome email but nothing after it — new subscribers hit silence.
  • You don't know which automations to build first or how to connect them.
  • You want welcome, onboarding, and nurture flows that run on autopilot.
  • You want 12 real artifacts ending in an automation launch checklist you actually ship.

This is NOT for you if…

  • You're not sending email consistently yet — build the Send habit first.
  • You already run tested, branching automations and just want advanced tactics.
  • You want copywriting training — this structures the flows; the writing craft is elsewhere.
  • You want someone to build your automations for you — this builds your own system.

Where this fits

The third step of the Email journey

Message is course 3 of 6. Send got you emailing consistently; Message makes those sends run themselves. It comes third because you can't automate what you don't yet send by hand — now you turn one-off emails into welcome, onboarding, and nurture flows. Then Segments makes sure the right people get the right flow.

You are here — automate it.

Learn with others

You're not doing this alone

Every lesson has a discussion where you share your work and read how others approached the same prompt — so you see the patterns, not just your own answer.

S2

“Post your experience, read two others, and notice the patterns.”

Per-pillar discussion forums are coming as the community grows.

Honest answers

Before you decide

What automations should I build first?+

Welcome sequence, always. It runs the most often and sets the tone for everything after. Onboarding second, nurture third — the priority map makes the order explicit.

How many emails should a welcome sequence have?+

3–5 is the sweet spot — enough to establish your voice and deliver value, short enough that people don't tune out before it ends.

What if my platform doesn't support complex branching?+

Start with simple linear sequences. Branching is a refinement, not a requirement — a straight-line welcome that actually exists beats a branching masterpiece that lives in your head.

Isn't automation impersonal?+

The opposite, done right. It guarantees every subscriber gets the right message at the right moment — something manual sending can never keep up with as your list grows.

I run a directory business — does this still apply?+

Yes. The fourth lesson of each module maps automations onto directory moments — new member welcome, listing activation, first interaction — with a parallel niche track.

What do I actually walk away with?+

12 working artifacts — from an automation priority map and welcome sequence to a trigger inventory, condition logic, a branching diagram, and a launch checklist.

What does email that runs itself look like — and how do I build flows that guide people without me writing every send?

Stop sending every email by hand. Map the flows, write them as a story, and wire the triggers that route each person to the right path.
